“I’m an artist, the track is my canvas, and the car is my brush”

Vale - Peter Brock 1945-2006

By Scott Russell

“Peter Perfect”
“King of the Mountain”

Like the great Ayrton Senna, Peter Brock was meant to be immortal. It was inconceivable that the nine-times winner at Mt Panorama would end his life in a wrecked racing car. But on September 8, 2006, the unthinkable became reality, when Brock was killed in the Targa West road rally.

The consumate proffessional, Brock’s acheivements speak for themselves. Nine wins at both the Bathurst and Sandown touring car enduros. Seven pole positions at Bathurst. Victory in the 2003 Bathurst 24 hour. Three Australian Touring Car titles. 37 ATCC wins and 57 Pole Positions. In 1979 he won Bathurst by six laps. In 1980 he was on pole position at every round of the ATCC.

Brock meant so much to Australia. Everybody knew him. The public adored him. Kids grew up wanting to be him. Rivals respected him. One fan went as far as having Brock’s signature tattooed onto his back.

Truly one of a kind. Farewell Brocky.
